‘Star Trek’ A Classic Hollywood Movie?

By Ian M. Cullen
According to new Chekov Anton Yelchin that is what Star Trek means to him. In a brief interview at the hollywoodoutbreak website Yelchin talked a little about the movie – and his role of Chekov in the film which tells the story of how the Classic Star Trek crew first came together.
“There are only so many levels to Pavel Chekov,” said the actor when describing the role he plays. “But then there’s a certain fun to that as well – because I’ve had the opportunity to sit and watch the old series and sort of find what I’d like to do – what I’d like to pick up on, and it’s weird being on a set where a lot of the actor’s myself included have no idea what a turbine engine is that is about to explode is you know what I mean? You know where you’re looking at a green screen that is supposed to be a battlefield but nothing going on you know.
“It’s fun. It really puts you into the sort of idea that you’re on a big old… like you on the classic idea of a Hollywood movie – which have never had to opportunity to do. It’s fun – it’s very different. It’s interesting and I really love digging deeply. You know that’s my favourite thing to do is to like know a person that I’m going to be so well. I think that’s the most important thing. I think you have to know everything from the way they walk to the way they talk and the way they dress. Those are all extensions of who they are and I think its weird when you get onto the set – and that’s not there – I mean nobody asked me what I thought – nobody asked me what the Star Trek uniform should look like. Everything was sort of planned out – but finding the same things in that kind of environment is interesting – it’s just really cool when I get to be on that set. It’s a lot of fun.”
