New ‘Star Trek’ Game Beaming Into J.J. Abrams Universe

Star Trek fans and gamers have a lot to look forward to in 2012 because by looks of things the good folk at Digital Extremes are developing quite a treat of a video game based on the new Star Trek Universe, which was created in the 2009 movie by J.J. Abrams.

I first learned of this via a post on Trekweb who posted some fantastic screencaps from the Giant Bomb website.

The game seems to be a mix of various styles and allows players to take on the role of either Kirk and Spock as played by Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine and the scenes in the video, which I have embedded below look somewhat inspired by the Call Of Duty gaming franchise, but if you are going to borrow from something. Why not borrow from the best.

The new game is to act as a prequel of sorts to the forthcoming movie. Which given how little we know about the new film is interesting in and of itself.

Thus far the game looks spectacular and will be available on PC, Playstation 3 and XBox 360 sometime in 2012.
