Sony To Cancel PSP Comic Book Service

Sony announced plans earlier today that they plan close their digital comics service on the Playstation Portable. This service will come to a close in September.
The studio revealed that the platform will get a final update on March 15 ahead of its closure, Andriasang reports.
Gamers who wish to keep their digital comics purchases beyond this year will be required to back them up via the MediaGO service. The Comic Reader app will be available to download until the end of the year.
Digital Comic debuted on PSP back in 2009 and enabled users to download comics from publishers including DC, Marvel, IDW Publishing, Archie, Tokyopop and BOOM! Studios. The platform amassed a library of more than 4,000 titles. Even our good friend Cy Dethan was able to publish his horror graphic novel Cancer Town on the PSP when it was relaunched last year through Markosia Publishing.
This isn’t necessarily the end of Sony’s venture in digital publishing. The studio revealed that they have future plans to continue their digital publishing services on their forthcoming portable devices, which means we may well see a similar service made available on the new Playstation Vita which gets its official launch in the UK very soon.
