Tampa Bay Comicon

The Tampa Bay Comic Con was this past weekend the 20 & 21st of October, 2012 at the Double Tree Hotel and the convention was packed with fans of all things comics and ‘Walking Dead’! The shows guest list was headlined by the amazing Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) from the mega hit AMC television series ‘Walking Dead’.

Also appearing at the show was actress Marilyn Ghigliotti of ‘Clerks’ fame, along with Animator and voice actor C. Martin Croker (Space Ghost Coast to Coast). There were also several great comic artists such as Ben Templesmith, Jim Fern, S.L. Gallant, and Cary Nord.

While the venue itself was not that large, the show had quite a few attendees, many costumes and great vendors. I myself purchased a Super Man comic from 1959 which featured the first appearance of ‘Titano’, as well as Captain Marvel number #1 at half what the Comic Book Price Guide lists it for. As if that were not good enough, I got GI Joe number #2 for free for buying the first two.

So now not only am I happy because of the great comic treasures I purchased, but then I get to meet Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes) from the ‘Walking Dead’ and ask him several questions during his panel. Chandler was a very likeable and quite impressive young man. His panel was very fun and he is not only very articulate and mature for a 12 year old, but he and his Father are both very nice guys. In truth I think the convention was as packed as it was because of Chandler but either way, great job to the promoters of the show because there seemed to be quite happy attendees everywhere you turned.

The convention also had a costume contest as well as the Tampa Bay Squad of the 501st Imperial Garrison along with the Heroes Alliance right next to them. All in all the Tampa Bay Comic Con was a fun show with a great head lining guest with great vendors and lots of fun things to do for the entire family. Definitely a show you want to consider attending in either Orlando or Tampa Florida!
