Have the odds For a ‘Dredd’ sequel just got better?
Last September when it was released in the cinema’s it all seemed to be over for the latest movie incarnation of Judge Dredd because the box office was dreadful.
However the release of Dredd last week on both DVD and Blu Ray may well have breathed new life into the movie.
Dredd costs a total of $50 Million dollars to make, but upon release it only made $13 million in box office. Meaning the the film flopped rather spectacularly.
But much like a lot of the cinema flops of years gone by. It seems to have redeemed itself in the home DVD and Blu Ray market.
Dredd is currently holding the number one spot in various DVD and Blu Ray charts and since its release last week the film has shifted 650,000 units. Even better is the fact that Dredd has also been the number one film in the digital downloads chart as well, which isn’t to bad for a film that crashed and burned in the cinema.
So could this late success for Karl Urban’s take on Megacity one’s law enforcement officer be a sign that we could be seeing a sequel to Dredd? I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime I suggest all you Dredd fans continue to consume the DVD’s and Blu Rays and tell your mates to do the same because, to turn a really bad line of dialogue around, “We are the law.”
