ITV Rebooting ‘Thunderbirds’

It looks like genre fans here in the UK have something new to look forward to other than the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, which we’ll celebrate later in the year.

Apparently another UK franchise, which has been asleep is to be rebooted for a new generation of fans to enjoy.

Deadline has revealed that ITV Studios is rebooting Thunderbirds, which of course is a major franchise that was created by Gerry Anderson, who sadly passed away during Christmas of last year.

According to reports ITV are teaming up with New Zealand-based Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop to produce a new version of Thunderbirds.

Apparently 26 half hour episodes of Thunderbirds Are Go! have been ordered. These new episodes are to be made with mixture of CGI animation and modelwork. ITV’s Denise O Donoghue explained, “Thunderbirds is a highly respected brand that continues to hold recognition around the world. This cult series is often credited as changing the history of animation and action-adventure, and we look forward to taking the show to another level while retaining the much-loved heritage that has endured over the past fifty years.”

The new show will launch in 2015.
