‘Primeval: New World’ not renewed for second season
The Canadian made Primeval: New World, which was a spin – off from the hit UK series Primeval has not done well enough in Canada to warrant a second season on Space.
The series has had issues with low ratings since it premiered last year in Canada. The final episode aired on Canada on Thursday of last week and Watch in the UK has about six more episodes to air.
“Unfortunately, the audience growth throughout the first season was not as strong as hoped, even after a schedule move in January from Monday to Tuesday nights to provide the benefit of a lead-in from established series Face Off,” Scott Henderson, vice-president of communications for Bell Media, said in an official press release on February 21. “The series has also seen an almost weekly decline in ratings since its premiere. We remain incredibly proud of this series and extend our sincere thanks to Omnifilm Entertainment for Season 1.”
As someone who has been watching the series over the past few weeks. It never really quite caught on for me in the same way as our original UK version did. As in it was alright, but I can see why it wasn’t necessarily ticking all the boxes with viewers. Which is sad because as a fan of Primeval in general. I really wanted this series to be a success.
The series will continue to air until its conclusion every Tuesday night on Watch at 9PM.
