‘Star Wars’: Han Solo and Boba Fett Spin – Off movies in the works?

It would seem that Disney is looking to bring the fun back to the Star Wars movies in that they are looking to further explore some of the more interesting characters from the Star Wars universe.

Yesterday we reported that Disney were planning to do some spin – off movies as well as the planned episode 7,8 and 9 movies.

Well late yesterday a source close to Disney told Entertainment Weekly that two Spin – offs being discussed were a Han Solo and Boba Fett movie.

Now I make no secret of the fact that as a kid I wanted to be Han Solo. I mean hell. That guy had all the best lines across all three of the original Star Wars movies. Who wouldn’t want to be Han Solo.

The Han Solo origin movie would be set before we meet him in A New Hope, and there is even the possibility of Disney bringing Harrison Ford back in order to bookend the film by portraying the entire film as a flashback coming from the older version of Han. It would likely look at how Han Solo became such a notorious smuggler.

The Boba Fett film will be centred on Bounty Hunters and would centre on Boba Fett trying to collect a bounty while trying to outsmart other Bounty Hunters.

Both of these movies could potentially feature appearances by Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt, who was presented as one of Han Solo’s greatest enemies in the original trilogy.

As yet Disney are to confirm or deny whether the above movies are even in development, but if they are I can see Sam Witwer doing a pretty convincing younger Han Solo and think he should go up for it.

Disney chairman Bob Iger did confirm earlier in the week that The Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and Mr & Mrs Smith’s Simon Kinberg are working on stand-alone projects.

“So we plan to make Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time too,” Iger explained.
