Star Wars Spin-Off Films To Focus On Individual Characters
This is going to make Star Wars fans’ heads explode. Today CEO Bob Iger made the disclosure in an interview with CNBC that Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are working on two films that operate outside the saga and each focuses on an individual character.
And if that’s not enough, they’re in addition to Disney’s planned Star Wars VII, VIII and IX — the first of which is being penned by Michael Arndt and directed by JJ Abrams. No word yet on which characters are involved in the spinoff films. Kasdan of course wrote Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Kinberg’s franchise credits include X-Men.
Start the speculation machine, fans! Who do you think rates a film unto themself? Websites are abuzz with the possibilities. I’m willing to bet that one will be a Boba Fett flick; George Lucas has acknowledged that if he knew how popular the character was going to be he never would have killed him. Plus, it wouldn’t cost much to put an actor in a costume with a mask. So who for the second film? Yoda lived for over 900 years, so Disney could decide to go pre-Episode I and do an early Jedi tale. And, again, CGI is cheaper than paying an actor. Disney is sure to announce whom both films will be focused on soon.
