Robert Redford joining Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
Chalk this up as one name you never thought you would associate with a comic book film. Robert Redford is in discussions to join the cast of Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the sequel that brings Chris Evans back as the shield-carrying superhero.
Why would he do it? If you think of all the Marvel flicks that have come out, Captain America was the one with the biggest heart on its sleeve, and it never fell into camp. Redford has always been independent and strong voiced about America and its policies, both good and bad, so Cap would be a good fit for him. But what role would he play? Deadline explains further:
“Redford is in talks to play a senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero collective run by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury character. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, whose Marvel script credits include Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World. The sequel will be released by Disney on April 4, 2014.”
If you had said five years ago that Robert Redford would be in a super hero movie, people would have laughed at you. Since comic book blockbusters have become the norm, it’s not really a surprise.
