Rod and Heidi Roddenberry expecting their first child

At the last MegaCon in March of this year I attended Rod Roddenberry’s panel on his outstanding Documentary, “Trek Nation” and at that time he spoke publicly about the news that he and his wife were expecting their first child. The first thing I thought and wrote in my notes was, “The First Family of Science Fiction is expecting an heir to the throne.”

While the Sci Fi reporter in me immediately knew this was news, the Dad in me immediately knew that some things should be shared to the World when the decision to share them on a larger scale is made, so I respectfully and quietly said nothing and decided that it was frankly none of my or anyone’s business.

However, friends, family and fans of the Roddenberry legacy will be happy to hear that Rod and Heidi Roddenberry have officially announced that they are expecting their first child.

Rod Roddenberry posted the following message to Facebook on Monday the 13th of May:

Ladies, Gentlemen, Friends, & Family,

I’m proud and excited to announce that Heidi and I will be bringing the Next, Next Generation to planet Earth. We’ve learned that it’s a Boy and he’ll be arriving in August.
Heidi is doing extremely well and all ultrasounds and tests have shown him to be in perfect health (Sorry, no pointed ears).

We thank you in advance for your well-wishes and warms sentiments.
Love, Rod & Heidi

I could not be happier for the Intergalactic couple and I am sure I speak for all Star Trek fans, as well as friends of both Rod and Heidi and the Roddenberry Foundation when I say:

Congratulations, Live Long and Prosper and May the Force be with your beautiful family!
