Emma Watson signs up for new Fantasy drama
Emma Watson, who won many a teenage boys hearts in the Harry Potter movies has signed up for a new role in an upcoming adaptation of fantasy novel Queen of the Tearling.
According to Variety the British actress will reunite with Harry Potter producer David Heyman on the project.
Erika Johansen’s fantasy trilogy is described as “a female Game of Thrones”, with a 19-year-old girl featuring as its main character.
The story takes place 300 years after a massive environmental disaster, and centres on princess Kelsea Glynn who must reclaim her late mother’s throne and her kingdom, the Tearling, from the dark magic of The Red Queen.
The book trilogy on which this series is based is to be published by Harper Collins in early 2014. The firm described the books as “an insightful human story whose heroine is grappling with both the daily realities of coming-of-age and the ethical dilemmas of ruling justly, all while simply trying to stay alive”.
The movie series is still in early development stages, with a director and writer still to be named. Emma Watson will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
The actress currently stars in The Bling Ring, which is released in the US on June 14, and in the UK on July 5.
