Two new names have surfaced as possibilities to take over the role of The Doctor from Matt Smith in Doctor Who.

According to various reports from the tabloid newspapers Julian Rhind-Tutt and Burn Gorman are the latest names to have popped up as possible candidates for the 12th Doctor.

Rhind-Tutt, who is best known for his role in The Green Wing is supposedly a favorite with BBC producers.

Burn Gorman, who is of course best known as the ill fated Dr. Owen Harper in the popular Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood is reportedly among the final contenders for the role, but my instincts rule that his prominent role in the first two seasons of Torchwood as well as his prominence in various Hollywood films and TV Drama’s may rule him out of the equation.

The Sun claims that Threesome’s Emun Elliott and Richard Coyle – who worked with Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat on Coupling – are also thought to be on the wishlist.

Rory Kinnear is now said to be the favourite to take on the role, according to the tabloid.

Homeland actor David Harewood has said that it would be “hard” to turn down the part.

Dominic Cooper, Ben Daniels and Chris Addison have also been linked with the role in recent weeks.

Red Dwarf star Craig Charles has also tossed his hat into the ring, but feels that his connection to Red Dwarf will likely rule him out as a potential Doctor.
