Comic Book ‘Clone’ Deal for Television

This is absolutely fantastic news to me! I have been in love with the comic book Clone since it’s first issue. It is a great layered story with incredible graphics–Juan Jose Ryp is a art GOD! The action is top notch, and definitely not for children. Try to imagine The Matrix, but it doesn’t slow or disappoint after the first installment. This comes from the writing staff at today’s San Diego Comic-Con.

“Robert Kirkman’s comics imprint Skybound debuted Clone from writer-creator David Schulner late last year, and now the comic book series has landed a deal at Universal Television for series development.

The news came during Image Comics’ Skybound panel today at Comic-Con and comes off Schulner’s overall deal at NBCU, where he created and executive produced last year’s midseason drama Do No Harm, which was cancelled after two episodes. Clone is a high-octane thriller with one sci-fi twist that explores Do No Harm’s similar themes of  identity and nature verses nurture: What if there were more of you? And what if you could save those versions of yourself from being killed? Schulner will adapt the comic and executive produce alongside Kirkman, David Alpert and David Engel. Issue #9 of Clone is due out next week and Schulner is working on Issue #15.

Skybound is the home of Kirkman’s creator-owned work including his comic book series The Walking Dead (now a hit AMC series and cable’s highest-rated drama), the long-running Invincible, Super Dinosaur, Thief Of Thieves and Clone, as well as Witch Doctor and Invincible Universe.”

The first few issues were recently collected in a trade. I cannot encourage you strongly enough to check out this terrific book!

Patrick Hayes was a contributor to the Comic Buyers Guide for a few years with “It’s Bound to Happen!” He had to give that up to teach 8th graders English, and only recently has been teaching 9th graders English. He reads everything as often as he can, when not looking up Star Trek, Star Wars or Indiana Jones items online.
