English Yorkshire maze catches attention of Time Lord
There is something about the United Kingdom that simply fascinates Intergalactic invasion, aliens and Time Lords and with the commemorative tribute to the 50th anniversary of the BBC television show, Dr. Who all eyes are on a field of crops in Yorkshire farm in jolly old England.
It seems that there is a giant 1000 foot pattern of a Dalek, as well as the first Doctor, William Hartnell from 1963, as well as the current Doctor, Matt Smith, which were designed by a GPS computer mapping software, used by handheld devices that allow the farms staff to cut out the crops so precisely.
What is even more fascinating is that the sixth Doctor, Colin Baker was on hand in order to launch the Doctor Who maze to the public. The recent opening of the maze takes place on property owned by Yorkshire farmer and Doctor Who fan, Tom Pearcy. When talking about the maze, Pearcy had this to say,
“We just thought, it’s a cool idea, let’s do it. Hopefully it’s a similar challenge to previous years, but we try to make it family-friendly.”
“We’re very pleased with how it’s turned out. I’m forty-odd and grew up watching Doctor Who.
“I was always terrified of the Daleks. I’ve got a son now who is seven, and it’s nice to do something that spans all ages.”
The Pearcy family has been doing crop designs for some time now and over the years, the designs have included Harry Potter, James Bond, and the Vikings, with sixth Doctor, Colin Baker praising Tom and his team’s work. While the Doctor’s Tardis was in the shop for repairs, he spoke from a helicopter in order to get a bird’s eye view of the Doctor Who crops.
“It’s just stunning, that someone has the vision and the energy to create something as clever as that. I imagine it will be very popular.
“There are so many anniversary jobs, two or three a week, so it’s a very busy year.
“They are all unusual, but this is truly unique, everything else I do is a variation on a theme, but this is new and very, very original, as well as temporary – three months from now, there will be no sign of it. I think it’s brilliant.”
