J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan to create ‘West World’ series for HBO
Michael Crichton’s classic movie ‘West World’ is to get an update in the form of a television series for HBO.
The movie, which starred the late Yul Brynner as the Gun Fighter centred on a wild west theme park called West World in which all the gun fighters and characters were advanced robots.
This new television version of the film is to be produced and developed by J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan (Person Of Interest) and will eventually air on HBO.
The logline for the adaptation of the 1973 film reads: “Set in the amazing world dreamt up by Michael Crichton, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.”
This will not be the first time that ‘West World’ has been on television. Back in the early eighties a short live series called ‘Beyond West World’ was made and starred James Wainwright and Connie Selleca. ‘Beyond West World’ continued the story from where the 1976 West World sequel ‘Future World’ left off.
The original film starred Yul Brynner as the robot gone awry while James Brolin and Richard Benjamin starred as tourists who got more than they bargained for.
