Clark Gregg, who heads up the new TV series ‘AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D’ has said that the new show seems to be an open game with the Marvel universe.

The hotly anticipated drama premiered on ABC last night and will capture the attention of the UK audience this Friday when the opening episode premieres on Channel 4.

The show follows Agent Coulson (Gregg) and his team of elite SHIELD agents, though co-creator Joss Whedon has hinted that Marvel’s iconic superheroes could appear on the show.

“Even if the show is focused on this team tracking villains and alien technology, it seems to be an open game with the Marvel universe,” Gregg told Metro. “So I don’t know if an Avenger or other characters will show up.”

As fans will know last years ‘Avengers Assemble’ saw Coulson killed, but Gregg promised that his mysterious resurrection will have “far reaching implications”.

“I enjoyed what they did with Coulson in The Avengers; his story was an important part of that movie,” he said.

“When Joss Whedon explained that the question of what Coulson is doing alive has far reaching implications for the series and that there’s a mystery involved, I signed up immediately.”
