In review: Walking Dead #119 (A)
From Image Comics and the Skybound imprint, Walking Dead issue #119 is part 5 of 12 and the books creative team of Kirkman and Adlard are still at their best as Rick’s people are now confronted by Negan and his army of apocalyptic enforcers counterattack.
Yes, the war between humanities survivors is indeed heating up again as Negan and his people have escaped from their not-so-zombie-overrun headquarters, well before Rick, Ezekial and Jesus anticipated. Not only is Negan lobbing grenades over the walls of Rick’s compound, but Negan seemingly gave the captured Holly back to Rick’s group. As Denise, Rick’s only real remaining doctor gets bitten by a reanimated Holly, which happens to be the surprise hook at the end of the book, right before Negan screams “Attack”!
Yes we see a zombie or two, specifically Holly, but again, The Walking Dead centers around the human drama within the zombie apocalypse, rather than the zombie aspect alone. This is unquestionable the book’s and series’ greatest attribute and enduring strength and the latest issue is another fine example.
I give this book an ‘A’ and highly recommend it to all those Dead Heads out there as it is comics and zombies at its best!
