Could Moonlight Rise From The Dead As Theatrical Movie

Moonlight

Many fans were shocked and somewhat ticked off last year when the romantic horror detective thriller Moonlight got canceled by CBS Television.

The series centred on detective Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin), who could solve crimes committed by vampires. He was dealing with his own issues with an ex, Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him without his consent, and a 400-year-old vamp (Jason Dohring), who butted in with underworld politics. Of course vampire politics aside, the main crux of this show was the burdening romance between Vampire Mick and human love interest Beth Turner who was played by British actor Sophia Myles.

If a movie should go ahead. It may well pick up somewhat from where the series left off, but centre more on the aforementioned vampire politics, which the series started to explore as it came to an abrupt end.

“Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war,” Harry Werksman said in an exclusive interview for SciFi Wire at the Saturn Award’s in which it picked up the trophy for best Series on DVD. “There was the family from which Coraline came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war.”

Should a movie ever get made it would obviously require all the cast to return, which maybe difficult considering that all the actors from the show have found work elsewhere, “You know, unfortunately, I think that everyone has kind of moved on,” Werksman said.

Admittedly a movie isn’t the only way for a continuation of Moonlight to go. Some feel that the series could well be continued as a regular comic book series much like has been done with Joss Whedon’s Buffy, Angel and of course Firefly, and the beauty about comics is that no actors would be required. “No, they don’t need actors,” Werksman said. “We could always do comic books, graphic novels, that’s true.”

Possible comic not withstanding, the possibility of a movie hasn’t been completely ruled out, and remains a fairly strong option.

“I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him,” he said. “He’s like, ‘When are we going to do the movie?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, man. Any time you’re ready.’”

There seems to be a glut of vampire novels and movies right now. Still, if the book or movie is done correctly it will draw fans. Good luck!

The series wasn’t to bad. Not sure if it would work as a movie though.

It should be brought back as a series. I have no doubt that I would watch it (several hundred times) as a movie, but it’s format was that of a series, not a movie and definitely not a comic book. Don’t get me wrong, I’d follow the show whichever avenue it came on, but the series was just hitting it’s stride when it was canceled. Damn “politics”. I want all the questions answered. What happened after the door closed? Would Josef try a relationship with Simone? Where did Lance take Coraline and who was Coraline talking about when she said if you take me to him, you know what will happen. There are so many unanswered questions it’s impossible for a movie or series to not be worked on. I know it’s difficult to get everyone that was involved in the series back, but if the outcry is loud enough, I say anything is possible! Look at what the fans have accomplished so far: the dvd set wasn’t originally going to be released in the US, Moonlight won a Saturn Award for best series on DVD (deservingly so), it won a People’s Choice Award for best new drama when it was on television, cbs has admitted that they regret letting the series go and countless fans have been screaming since and our voice is not tiring! Someone is going to listen to us eventually and we will get what we want! VSRRR!!!

“Somewhat ticked off”?! We’ve been fighting for recognition since the show was taken from us the fans for NO REASON! It had absolutely NOTHING to do with ratings. It consistantly won it’s time slot (which was the absolute suckiest time slot to put a show), it won a People’s Choice Award for Best New Drama, it’s won a Saturn Award for Best Series on DVD, it has countless fans and gaining more by the day. What no one wants to say is that they effed up in a serious way and let this wonderful show slip through their fingers. Idiots! VSRRR!!!
