For the last few weeks there has been much talk about the Doctor Who movie, which was mentioned in the Official BBC Press release concerning the new companion Karen Gillian a few weeks back.

As you’d imagine the tabloids and many websites have been having a field day with this. Some have even gone as far as to claim that David Tennant has said that he would like to play The Doctor in the movie.

However, it is all just a rumour that has run out of control. At least that’s what lead writer and departing producer Russell T. Davies says.

“No, sadly it’s the internet running out of control. It ran so out of control that my agent’s assistant thought that I was writing a film and put it on the website and I was like, trust me I’ve got plenty of other work to do! But I think it will happen one day, just because people keep talking about it, and the fact that they keep talking about it means there must some interest, somewhere. So not right now, but I think it could exist because back in the nineteen sixties, they made two films that were spin-offs from the television series and they’re still repeated on British television to this day. I think one day, the public good will will simply summon a film into existence!”
