Natalie Portman, best known in genre circles for her role in the Star Wars prequel movies and her role as Evey in V For Vendetta is once again stepping into the world of genre movies.
This time however she will get to play Norse god Thor’s girlfriend in the Kenneth Branagh movie, which is expected to hit cinema in 2010.
Hollywood Reporter says that Portman will play Jane Foster, who in early comic-book lore was a nurse who became Thor’s first love. The studio said the character will be updated for the feature adaptation.
Playing the title role in the movie as reported a month or so ago is Chris Hemsworth who was last seen as the doomed George Kirk in J.J. Abrams Star Trek. Playing the role of Loki the mischievous god and movie villain is Tom Hiddleston.
Marvel Studios official synopsis of Thor reads as follows:
This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Portman’s role in the movie calls into question earlier reports which indicated that the entire movie would be set in the supernatural world of Asqard. In fact her inclusion in the film hints that we may well see Thor in our world.

Are they serious ? Portman has proven she can’t really act. She has done this in the three Star Wars movies & V is for Vendetta. Way to take a blockbuster and turn it into a block-loser.

Maybe they’ll kill her in the first act? Just a thought.
