A couple of months back we reported that a Teen Wolf movie remake was in the works. Since then little has been heard about this project.

However, it looks like a television series based on the movie has been given a go ahead by MTV who according to Hollywood Reporter have ordered a pilot with a view to eventually doing a television series.

This will not be the first attempt at adapting Teen Wolf to the small screen. UPN tried to bring a series into being shortly before it merged with the WB and became the CW Network.

The original 1985 movie, which was a reworking of the 1950’s movie I Was a Teenage Werewolf, which was the first starring role for the late Michael Landon, who went on to play prominent roles in Bonanza, Little House and the 1980s syndicated series Highway To Heaven.

The 1985 movie starred Michael J. Fox who would go onto super-stardom for his role of Marty McFly in the Back To The Future trilogy. The movie centred on a teen basketball player who discovers, along with the other bodily changes associated with adolescence, that he’s a werewolf. The movie was co-written by Jeph Loeb, who’d go on to be a writer and producer on shows like Smallville, Lost and Heroes.

MTV executive Liz Gateley says that the series will be a dramatic thriller, and will have two best friends providing a comedy element to the proceedings. “They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques.” Gateley said.

sounds like a male version of “Buffy”… Would the hero “go Wolf” when the situation went critical ? Would today’s MTV viewers care about a 25 year old movie premise ?
