Justin Lin To Helm Highlander Reboot

You know its to bad that Hollywood does not listen to their own advice when it comes to Highlander. Seemingly, there being ‘only one’ of anything is not in the Hollywood credo.
When it was announced in the summer of 2008 that plans were in the works to produce a reboot of the CLASSIC 80s movie Highlander. I was among the merry band of fans that hoped and prayed that this one would stay in production hell, but it seems my prayers haven’t been answered.
According to a new report found at SciFi Wire Summit Entertainment have found their man to direct the planned reboot of Highlander, and that man is none other than Justin Lin who is best known for directing The Fast And The Furious.
The original 1986 movie was directed by Russell Mulcahy and written by first time screenwriter Gregory Widen and was a mega hit when it got released on video. The film, which in many peoples opinion should have remained a one off spawned 4 theatrical sequels, the last two of which tanked miserably and wound up in the bargain DVD bins around the world.
The original film centred on Connor MacLeod who after been run through on a battlefield in 16th century Scotland discovers to his awe that he cannot die. The first movie had the benefit of excellent casting, a good intelligent story and a lot of flash back sequences which really sold the movie to you, and what’s more the movies story resolved itself. Which made it very difficult for the movie makers to produce sequels with any sense of credible story to them.
One of the things that Summit hope to achieve with this reboot is a springboard to produce sequels. Just exactly how much of the original movies mythology will remain intact is as yet unknown, but the least we can hope for are some confident actors in the lead roles and some good solid writing.
Central to the mythology are the epic sword battles that the immortals have to go through in order to take the others head and with it all his or her energy and knowledge.
Writing the script for this reboot are Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
The only real winners in the Highlander mythology to date have been the original 1986 movie and the very successful television series, which starred Adrian Paul in the role of Duncan MacLeod. If you watch the first movie and the TV series, and consider them as alternate universes. They can be highly entertaining. The worst mistake that was made on Highlander was trying to bridge the two universes together.
After all. There can be only one…
