When it comes to Stargate things may well could come full circle for Richard Dean Anderson, who was a major contributor to kick starting the Stargate Television franchise in 1997 when he took on the role of Colonel Jack O’Neill on the longest running American SciFi Series.

Fans are already aware that Anderson will reprise this role for the pilot movie Stargate Universe, which is the third television spin-off from SG1. However according to Robert Carlyle the leading man of Stargate Universe, Jack O’Neill may be a full on recurring character on Universe. At least that’s what he told Digital Spy in a recent interview to promote the series.

Asked about the possibility of any of the original stars staying beyond their guest stints, Carlyle told DS: “I think that RDA might do – I think that he could come and go – and even Michael Shanks could come and go too, but the difficulty for them is that [the new team] are marooned in a spaceship on the far side of the universe.”

Carlyle has high praise for Amanda Tapping and Richard Dean Anderson for agreeing to come back for the pilot. “I think the reason these guys were there – and God bless them for coming in and doing it, because they didn’t have to – is it’s a way of saying ‘here’s who we were, those guys are gone now and these are the ones who are going to go forward’.”

Stargate Universe premiers on Syfy on 2 October and will hit UK shores on Sky One on October 6.
