Ackles: Playing Captain America Just A Rumor

Will Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester in Supernatural) be playing the lead role of Steve Rogers in the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America feature film?
When someone asked him about it recently, according to WorstPreviews.com, he said that he hasn’t been approached to star in the movie.
“It’s been brought to my attention that it’s online,” Ackles said. “I have not gotten a call from my agent, I have not gotten a script, I have not talked to anyone about it. I think it’s all a rumor.”
Does he expect to get the role? Not really, he said.
“I’m sure they’ll cast some big name film actor,” he said. “They’re not going to pull some dude off the CW and give him Captain America. I’m squashing it now, I know nothing about it.”
Scheduled for release on July 22, 2011, The First Avenger: Captain America will feature the character’s origin story. Here’s the current synopsis for the film:
“Based on the Marvel Comics character from the second World War, a mild-mannered young soldier named Steve Rogers volunteers for a special Super Soldier program for the US Army. Donning the colors of Old Glory, Captain America leapt into the hearts and souls of every American bringing hope and justice to a war-weary nation.”
Although no announcements have been made regarding casting, Joe Johnston (October Sky, The Rocketeer, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi) will direct, and Christopher Markus (the three Chronicles Of Narnia films) will write the screenplay. The profile of the movie on IMDB actually gives credit to Jack Kirby for creation of the characters.
Supernatural airs each Thursday at 9 p.m. ET. In its fifth year on The CW network, the show remains a favorite among sci-fi/horror genre fans. Ackles stars with Jared Padalecki as the Winchester brothers take on evil in any form they find.
