Fillion ‘Wants To Try For Greatest American Hero’

Universal City CinemasActor Nathan Fillion who is best known to genre fans for his role of Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly, and is now the leading man in the hit series Castle recently admitted that he’d love to try out for the lead in the movie reboot of Greatest American Hero.

As fans know The Greatest American Hero was a comedic spin on the American Superhero and centred on clumsy school teacher Ralph Hinkley who was played to brilliant affect by a very average looking William Katt, who really brought an everyman feel to it that everyone related too.

A movie version of the Stephen J. Cannell television series has been in the works for awhile, and has run into numerous stumbling blocks.

In a recent interview for IFC the actor who has previously been rumoured to be up for The Green Lantern has this to say about the Greatest American Hero role.

“There are so many superheroes out there, I feel like there’s none left. But there is one I think I could handle, and that’s a redo of The Greatest American Hero.”

He added: “I’d say it’s largely the same idea, the same story. But the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armour, a scuba suit – you could do that stuff.”

The Greatest American Hero ran on television from 1981 to 1983 and enjoys a strong cult following in the USA today.
The programme’s creator Stephen J. Cannell reportedly announced last year that a feature film was in development with director Stephen Herek.

This is a superhero movie I would watch. First, because it’s Nathan, second because I absolutely loved Greatest American Hero. I also love Castle. Thanks, Nathan, for great entertainment.

sounds like a fun idea, while not being disrespectful of the tv series

Well, all it says is that Nathan would like to try for the role. Its not a sure thing.

And, to be honest I don’t think hes right for it.
