Shanks To Take Flight As Hawkman On Smallville

hawkmanYesterday we reported that former Stargate Atlantis actor Jason Momoa had scored a role in the pilot for the HBO series Game of Thrones, but he isn’t the only former Stargate Actor to be sinking his teeth into a new project of late.

According to a report at IGN Stargate SG 1 star Michael Shanks who played Daniel Jackson for 9 of 10 seasons of the series will be donning a pair of wings for the role of Hawkman in an up and coming episode of the hit CW series Smallville.

The website reports that Shanks will appear as the popularized Justice League character in the fledgling Justice Society episode – and here is how IGN reported this news:

We’ve known since this summer that the Justice Society would be coming to Smallville, in an episode written by comic book writer Geoff Johns, but so far the exact characters who would be part of the team were not revealed. …

As it turns out, Hawkman and Doctor Fate will both be part of the Smallville incarnation of the Justice Society. This goes hand in hand with DC Comics, where both characters have notable histories with the team and its various incarnations, dating back to the 1940s.

The website also added that Brent Stait who is also known for roles in Stargate will play the part of Doctor Fate in the episode, which will air sometime in January 2010 on the CW.

Interesting casting! Shanks definitely proved he could take a character and work it when he was on Burn Notice. I’m looking forward to watching his take on Hawkman. Just please don’t kill off his character (again)… K@
