Baccarin Gives Insight On Her ‘V’ Character

One series genre fans are waiting for is the new re-imagining of the classic Kenneth Johnson mini series ‘V’ which had guinea pigs running scared all over the United States and Europe.
Over the last few months we’ve been hearing a fair bit about this series, and how it differs from the original series, which was a massive international hit globally, which is something that this new version will be extremely hard pushed to emulate.
This new version does have a fair bit going for it. The fact that it has a cast of recognisable actors from other genre series such as Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) and the gorgeous Morena Baccarin from Firefly goes a long way to insuring that most genre fans will give it at least a few weeks to impress, and having Scott Peters as one of the producers also doesn’t hurt its chances either.
However, one cannot help but think that this new version is going to be a tad more political than the more people oriented original series, which followed the fortunes of a mismatched group of resistance fighters, who struggled to get past their own differences in order to defend earth from the Visitors.
Baccarin plays he role of Anna in the series, who is the leader of the Visiting Aliens, who come in peace but have another agenda, and in a recent interview with SciFi Wire Baccarin revealed that Anna, who essentially is a similar role to that of Diana in the classic show is more political in her dealings with earth.
“Anna is somebody who is extremely ambitious and will do whatever needs to be done to secure the continuation of her species,” Baccarin said. “So she’s come down to Earth, and she’s going to do whatever it takes to get people to trust her and to listen to her, so that she can get what she wants. So I’d say she’s a very motivated alien.”
“She knows exactly what to say, what to do. The aliens seem to play off of what they think human beings want and what they think human beings gravitate toward, like healthcare and peace. There’s a line in the pilot about the aliens acting more human than humans, and that’s how Anna and her people are going to get what they want, by enacting that, by giving humans what they want and taking advantage of that.”
“V” will premier in the USA on ABC on November 3. UK fans will have to wait to next year when the SciFi Channel starts broadcasting the show.
