paranormal-activity-posterLately it seems that the most talked about genre movie to hit cinema is Paranormal Activity, which has generated a similar buzz with the media to what Blair Witch did back in the late 1999.

In fact Paranormal Activity has been such a surprise hit that now the studio is pushing for a sequel.

The movie, which only cost a modest $15,000 to make was directed by Oren Peli and has grossed an impressive $62 million in its five weeks on release in the US. The film has beat off opposition from movies, which are expected to be hits like Saw VI. A movie that many would expect to be top of the box office tree in the USA.

“We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do Paranormal Activity 2 and we’re looking to see if that makes some sense,” the Los Angeles Times quotes Paramount chairman Brad Grey as saying.

Paramount picked up the distribution rights to Paranormal Activity for a modest $300,000 and spent  no less the $10 million on advertising for the movie.

Grey said that the movie could become the most profitable in the studio’s history.

Paranormal Activity will open in the UK on November 25.
