Forget Battlestar Galactica there’s two new shows in town, which combined have helped the rebranded Syfy Channel post some of their best ratings ever for October.
SciFi Wire the official news source of the Syfy Channel revealed that Sanctuary and Stargate Universe combined have aided the cable channel is getting some of the highest ratings it has ever posted.
Stargate Universe, which stars Robert Carlyle and boasts a fairly darker tone than its predecessors has averaged a staggering 2.85 million live viewers – up 36% from predecessor Stargate Atlantis. The cable channels continued credo of “smarter, younger and edgier” continues to rile some of the more hardcore fans of the original two series, but this kind of success can’t really be argued with.
Sanctuary hasn’t been a slouch either. The show, which stars Amanda Tapping has pulled in 2.4 million live viewers and has improved on the previous season in terms of targeted viewer age. The crown jewel of ratings for the cable channel seems to be the reality television series Ghost Hunters, which has been drawing an average of 3 million live viewers.
Below are some statistics that come directly from Syfy Channel, and show the ratings surge that the Cable Channel has enjoyed of late.
NY – October 27, 2009 – Extending its summer ratings surge into fall, Syfy smashed yet another viewership record with its most watched October prime in history among total viewers (1,452,000), Adults 18-34 (308,000), Adults 18-49 (733,000), Adults 25-54 (797,000), Women 18-34 (141,000), Women 18-49 (356,000) and Women 25-54 (378,000).
Syfy jumped to #3 in A25-54 and #4 among A18-49 versus all basic cable entertainment networks – its second best monthly ranking ever in these demos behind December 2002 when Steven Spielberg’s record-setting Taken premiered.

these numbers shouldn’t be that much of a surprise, most of what airs on American tv stinks. Shows, like the ones listed, are intelligent programs which doesn’t talk down to the viewers. Other then shows like NCIS, Bones, House and Castle, there isn’t a whole lot more worth watching.

Ashley MUST RETURN!! Agam Darshi does not fit nor blend well with the other new and regular characters. ‘Freelander’ has been shown to have an evil agenda with selfish intentions for her own benefit.SANCTUARY does not need her. I am amazed that Tapping’s character asked her to stay ~ YUK!
SANCTUARY is a great show. PLEASE don’t mess it up with Agam Darshi as a replacemenet for Ashley. She doesn’t measure up to Ashley or the show.

What a crock of sh**. Sanctuary took a nose dive with the loss of Ashley, and SGU can’t get any worse. I have a whole group of expletives to describe the executives making the decisions up top, with what seems to be very small (fill in the blank).
Why is it, when a show is truly taking off, someone makes a decision to shake things up, have a dramatic moment, turn things on their heads; it only destroys what little faith a viewer can have in a show.
I have reached a point where they whole SyFy (another ridiculous change) has fallen towards the bottom of my channel choice to DVR. Other channels have really brought shows to fruition, but these guys have taken the golden apple, and rotted it with their touch.

We can all use expletives til were blue in the face. Fact remains. The best scifi on television right now is British made:)
Agree with you on SGU but for different reasons. If anything SGU needs to start getting more serious. I mean at every turn the ship or some alien life form that we can’t see has saved them. Which is something that is fast causing me to lose interest.
Am still hooked on Sanctuary though. Unlike you I wasn’t to into Ashleys character, but she did sort of grow on me by end of the first season, but not enough for me to become overly invested. Like you am not too thrilled with the new girl. Who seems to be every bit as shallow as Ashley was when she started out in season one. She may get better, she may not. But truth is its the other characters on that show which interest me as well as the storylines.
