The Green Goblin Was Nearly Batman?

Despite his gravely voice, after the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, it is hard to imagine anyone else donning the cape and cowl of the Darknight Detective, Batman, but Christian Bale. However, believe it or not, before Michael Keaton was selected to play the lead role in Batman in 1989, the man who played Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin in the first Spider-Man film was in contention for the part.
“Very early, they talked to me about playing Batman,” Willem Dafoe recently said to MTV News. “I hate to spread these things because unless you remember it well, you’re stoking the fires of bulls—, but I remember it. I’ve had my brush with these things.”
Dafoe’s IMDB page indicates that the actor was considered for the role of the Joker in the 1989 film. But when MTV News asked Dafoe for specifics, the actor said he was never asked to play the Joker. Batman, on the other hand … .
When the final choices were made, Dafoe wasn’t picked for the part. Was it better that Keaton and Jack Nicholson dueled it out on the rooftops of Gotham City, and that Dafoe got to be the baddie in the Spider-Man film franchise? All fans know is that many of them enjoyed the actors in the roles they finally were chosen for.
