Synopsis: Newly crowned Queen Catrina settles in as Camelot’s first lady. As he true troll nature surfaces, her influence over Uther increases.

The Review: This was a fun conclusion to Merlin’s first two part adventure. While last weeks episode focused on the setting up of the wedding that should never have been, and introducing us to the relationship between Sarah Parish’s Troll/Lady Catrina and King Uther. This concluding episode sees the focus shift more to young Arthur.

While the now Queen Catrina uses her influence over Uther to turn him against Arthur by making unreasonable demands on the people of Camelot. Arthur is put in a position where he is forced to defy his fathers new laws much to the delight of Gwen.

Anthony Head gets a bedroom scene with a fun and smelly twist. While Merlin now banished from Camelot helps Gaius reveal the Trolls true nature to the court of Camelot.

For this two part episode much of the attention was focused on guest star Sarah Parish in the due role of Queen Catrina and the Troll, while meant there was little for Angel Coulby as Gwen and Katie McGrath as Morgana to do. Hopefully we’ll get to see more from Merlins ensemble cast in the closing weeks of the series.

Score 8/10
