Misfits

While NBC in the USA continue to bring forth Heroes. We here in the UK are on the verge of moving on, and are doing so by bringing forth a new group of teenage anti heroes for a brand new E4 Comedy series, which looks set to well and truly spoof the Superhero genre, only in a very British way.

The new series, which is titled Misfits is described as darkly funny and centres on a group of young offenders – Curtis, Alisha, Nathan, Kelly and Simon – who discover superhuman abilities after they’re caught in a storm while picking up rubbish and cleaning graffiti as part of their community service orders.

In a recent interview for TV & Satellite Week actor Iwan Rheon talked a little about his role in the series. Rheon plays Simon who is on an Anti Social Behavior Order (ASBO) for having set fire to the home of the school bully, and now has the ability to become invisible.

“Simon’s very introverted and gets a lot of stick from the rest of the group, so he fades away from them when that happens,” says Rheon. “Initially, he’s not in control of his power, but he’s a fast learner.”

However, the storm didn’t only effect Simon and the rest of the gang. It also affected their probation officer Tony, who is turned into a murderous psychopath. After a terrible attack, the gang soon find themselves locked in a fight to the death with Tony, and then decide to hide his body as apposed to explain their strange story to the authorities.

“It’s a funny and unusual script,” says Rheon. “It’s been great to do because we are a young cast working with a young production team.”

Misfits will premier on Thursday, 12 November at 10pm UK time on E4.
