In Review: The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Eternity Trap Parts 1 & 2 (Season 3 episodes 7 & 8)

Synopsis: When investigating a haunted house Sarah Jane, Rani and Clyde begin to question whether science is the key to all things.
Review: This is not your average episode of Sarah Jane Adventures. In fact this particular story missed a pretty big trick and should really have been show last week on the lead up to Halloween weekend. As apposed to this week.
The team is without Luke for both parts of the story, which in a way is a good thing because the story is left to focus on Clyde, Rani and Sarah Jane Smith. Clyde as ever provides much of the humour with some very bad jokes about goulash.
However, the episode is genuinely spooky in parts and does have the team questioning whether or not this haunted house is real or not.
As you’d expect from any self respecting Sarah Jane Adventures episode. The haunted house is indeed the result of science.
Some nice performances in the episode from Donald Sumpter who gives a wickedly evil performance as Erasmus.
We see some great references to loads of classic ghost stories in this story, and as the episode draws to a close. We get some great narrative touches that reveal the true nature and motives of Erasmus Darkening.
Some brilliant writing from Phil Ford and some masterful direction from Alice Troughton make this one of the strongest Sarah Jane Adventures stories of the season. And seeing Clyde with a bit less of a swagger in this story as things get progressively worse offer a nice change in pace for the series.
Score 9/10
