At long last Star Trek creator and legendary television producer Gene Roddenberry, who was known to many as The Great Bird Of The Galaxy has been inducted into The Television Hall Of Fame.
Sadly Gene who passed over to the final frontier 18 – years ago doesn’t get to enjoy the award, which is a shame because we’re pretty sure he’d have thrown a big party and had the fans join in.
As most Star Trek fans will tell you. Gene Roddenberry was very much a man who was ahead of his time in terms of storytelling and forward thinking. Roddenberry was a major fawn in the side of most television networks that he worked for, and like any self respecting artist fought to keep his creation on the air and on the air the way he saw it, and not the way the Networks wanted it. That said though. He did have to make compromises along the way, but never one to give up. Always found an alternate way to get his points across.
Gene Roddenberry shares this years honour’s with the likes of: comedy duo Tom and Dick Smothers, Murphy Brown star Candice Bergen, Saturday Night Live and game show announcer Don Pardo, The Price Is Right creator Bob Stewart and Emmy-award winning art director Charles Lisanby.
Here how Reuters reported it:
“This year’s inductees have challenged and shaped popular culture and entertained us royally while doing so,” said Television Academy chairman John Shaffner.
