Gateworld reports that the much talked about third Stargate movie for the direct to DVD Market is to be called Stargate: Revolution.

This third movie will reunite the original cast as was led by Richard Dean Anderson, who’ll be making a welcome return as General Jack O’Neill.

The title for the movie was announced by series regular writer and producer Joseph Mallozzi on his blog yesterday.

Revolution will be the third straight to DVD movie set within the Stargate SG-1 Universe, which kicked the television franchise off back in 1997. For awhile there has been some doubt as to whether or not this third SG-1 movie will get made.

After reportedly giving the production a green light this past spring (story), MGM placed it back in drydocks along with the Atlantis movie, Stargate: Extinction.

The first two Stargate DVD movies The Ark Of Truth and Continuum were both filmed in 2007 and were released through MGM Home Entertainment in the Spring and Summer of 2008. The Ark Of Truth served as a means to wrap up the regular shows Ori storyline whereas Continuum was a self contained story.

MGM had every intention of shooting both the third SG-1 movie and the first Atlantis feature in this fall, but both movies are on hold due to economic pressures at MGM Studios.

The SG-1 script, which is done was written by Brad Wright and Carl Binder who both currently serve as regular writers on the new Syfy Channel series Stargate Universe. The story is reportedly set sometime between Continuum and the start of SGU. Brad Wright who has always maintained strong ties to the fan base revealed that the story has General Jack O’Neill as very much the central focus.
