Last year a remake was announced for the classic eighties vampire comedy Fright Night, and in summer of this year the remake was aborted and we all breathed a sigh of relief.

Seemingly the remake is back on, which only goes to show that Hollywood is not getting any closer to recovering from its tendency to want to do remakes or re-imagine. As apposed to taking a chance on some original content.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Marti Noxon, writer-producer on the critically acclaimed Mad Men, has been hired to script the remake of Fright Night.

Noxon whose past work has involved work on both Joss Whedon’s Buffy and Angel will be penning the Fright Night script for Dreamworks. So fans that much like myself are saying, ‘Oh crap. Another remake!’ At least we can take solace in the fact that they’ve chosen a quality writer to pen the script.

The original Fright Night, which was released in 1985 was a biting satire about most horror B – Movies and late night horror television shows. It starred Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale, with Ragsdale playing a teenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires.
