In Review: Sarah Jane Adventures – Mona Lisa’s Revenge Part 1 & 2 (Season 3 – Episode 9 & 10)

Synopsis: When the famed Mona Lisa painting comes to life while being displayed at the London Art Museum. All hell breaks loose.
The Review: This episode basically takes on the theme of a classic cat and mouse game within the confines of the art museum.
When Clyde wins an art competition. He and his class are invited to the national art museum where the famed Michael Angelo painting of Mona Lisa happens to be on display.
Luke having just had a fight with Sarah Jane about keeping his room clean is in a mood, and when the Mona Lisa comes to life he takes charge of the situation and goes on to investigate with Rani putting up a little bit of resistance.
Sarah Jane takes somewhat of a back seat for this episode allow the three younger actors to shine and solve the mystery. Though it’s ultimately Luke that figures things out, and Clyde’s new found talent for art that saves the day.
To me this was one of the weakest offerings of the series to date. Part one was marred by unnecessary music cues and failed attempts at humour. Whereas the second part took on a somewhat more dark and edgier feel.
Overall though I felt that this show was a bit of a backward step for SJA as in it was far more camp than it needed to be.
I’d really liked to have seen the younger characters given a more serious episode to play around with to show us a bit more range.
Score 5/10
