For folks in the US for whom anything less than 10 million viewers is a failure, it should be noted that those ratings figures for CBBC are considered excellent for the amount of viewership the network gets around that time. Similarly, the 10.3 million-viewer rating for The Waters of Mars places it among the top-5 episodes of the revived Doctor Who since it returned to TV in 2005. I’m told that to find an equivalent rating in the US, you’d have to multiply the numbers something like a factor of 4.

As someone who lives in the UK I can pretty much confirm most of that.

The SJA series airs during the childrens television segments which is primarily watched by younger viewers.

Fact is the UK is a mere blip on the map when compared to the USA. So for us 10 million is a big audience.

Interestingly enough BG when it aired on Sky One was only pulling in about 350,000 per airing. The highest rating on Sky One is close to 1 Million. And the highest a scifi series ever got was Enterprise with a round million when Sky One first aired it.
