Just when you thought Hollywood was through with remakes another comes along, and this one is another that will likely see divided opinions from fans.

In a move to prove that originality is passe a remake of the classic 1981 horror movie The Howling has been put into development.

I’m a lover of the Howling. Simply because it was the first movie in which I got to see Robert Picardo play one of those really, really bad men that he is so good at, and though effects wise it may look cheesy. The brief line of Dialogue where Picardo in his role of Eddie Quist delivers the lines, “I want to give you a piece of my mind.” before proceeding to pick at his brain. Still brings a sick and twisted smile to my face.

Which is why I can’t really see a remake of this one working.

Anyway, regardless of my thoughts on the matter a remake has been commissioned and according to Variety is going to be produced by Joel Kastelberg and Etchie Stroh, and is to be retitled as The Howling: Reborn.

Joe Nimziki will write and direct the film, slated for a Halloween 2011 release with production to begin in February.
Gremlins director Joe Dante helmed the original Howling, released in 1981. The movie spawned six sequels.
The original’s producers Steve Lane and Bob Pringle will return for the remake.
