The ninth Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston has done a number of roles since departing the BBCs hit SciFi Series in 2005, and its fair to say that none of those roles have been as big or as iconic as The Doctor. All that is about to change.
Eccleston who is well known for having played various roles in both film and television is setting up to play what is potentially his biggest role since that of the Doctor. The role in question being that of John Lennon in a new one off BBC drama, which centres on legendary singer song writer between the year 1967 and 1971.
Christopher Fairbank, Naoko Mori, Claudie Blakley, Rory Kinnear, Michael Colgan, Andrew Scott and Allan Corduner have also signed up to star in the project.
“Securing Christopher Eccleston to play John Lennon is further testament to the calibre of drama on BBC Four,” said BBC drama commissioning controller Ben Stephenson.
“The ‘Women We Loved’ season currently on air is attracting record audiences and the channel is steadily building a reputation for portraying some of this country’s best loved icons.”
Richard Klein who is the BBC Four Controller added that he sees BBC Four as a place for Drama, which not only tells the story of popular artists lives. But also seeks to peek into what their private lives would have been like.

For me it is hard to put Christopher Eccleston into John Lennon’s figure. We’ll see.
