For sometime now plans have been in the works to produce a theme park based around some of Marvel Comics’ signature characters, which involve Spider-Man, Iron Man and The X-Men, and if the merger between Marvel and Disney doesn’t wreck things we’ll likely see this park pop up sometime in 2012.

However, it will not be easy to get to if you live here in the UK or out in America because according to Digital Spy the park will cost an estimated 1 billion dollars to build and is to be based in Dubai.

This theme park is a join project between the United Arab Emirates-based Al Ahli Group (AAG) and Marvel Entertainment, and will have some of the finest creative minds from Hollywood, Orlando and Dubai working on it.

We are launching a long-term relationship with the Al Ahli Group to bring the Marvel Universe to Dubai with this exciting new theme park development,” said Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel.

“Al Ahli Group has both an impressive team of theme park, entertainment and hospitality executives and the financial strength to leverage that expertise into a world-class destination resort experience unparalleled in the region,” he continued.

“We are very pleased to be a part of this exciting initiative and look forward to a successful partnership with Mohamed Khammas and the Al Ahli Group.”

Testing of some of the rides offsite has already began in Hollywood. According to The LA Times tests have been conducted on Spidey, Fantasticar and X-Men: Danger Room.

“Marvel is a brand that is recognised globally via its ever expanding list of superhero characters,” AAG chief executive Mohamed Khammas added. “Now, it won’t be much longer until the children in Pan Arabia and the world can experience new and exciting rides with Marvel’s Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four and many other superheroes right here in the UAE.”
