Tron, Star Trek, Men In Black Sequels Will Be In 3D, But Not Spider-Man

The 3D phenomenon has already swept movie animation with films like Disney’s Up and Sony’s Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, so can live-action films in this format be far behind?
In fact, James Cameron‘s soon-to-be-released sci-fi adventure movie Avatar will be in 3D and, if it continues the trend of bringing in more money to local theaters, the future of films might be in eye-popping 3D, according to the Coventry Telegraph.
We already know several sequels that will be released in the 3D format, including Resident Evil 4, Underworld 4, Tron Legacy, and very likely Star Trek 2 and Iron Man 2. New films Arabian Nights, Swamp Thing, Ronin and Shady Talez will also require 3D glasses to see them. Cameron has also said he wants to convert Titanic and Terminator 2 into the third dimension.
So why not Spider-Man 4? All that webslinging around skyscrapers in New York seem to be an obvious choice for 3D.
Howard Stringer, Sony’s chief executive, says the next Spidey installment will not be in 3D as well as Michael Jackson’s This Is It.
“I don’t think that would make sense to be honest,” Stringer said in an interview in Tokyo. “I don’t think it will reveal anything else about Michael Jackson we would want to be see.”
But Sony isn’t completely out of the 3D game. Stringer did note that a future Men In Black film, mostly likely the one being released in 2011, was being considered.
Of course, fans will need televisions that can show 3D at home before long, so Sony says a third to a half of its TVs will come with 3D features in three years.
