Dark ShadowsBack in the 1960s Dark Shadows was a huge genre series, which ran for five years and had a total of 1245 episodes.

The series was a blend of horror, mystery, suspense and Gothic romance and to this day enjoys a huge cult following.

So it comes as no surprise that work is moving ahead on a remake, and the teaming of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp for a Dark Shadows movie is what many would consider to be a natural fit.

SciFiWire recently reported that Johnny Depp who will star in the movie has revealed that the shoot for the cinematic adaptation of the cult series will likely start shooting in 2010.

“We’re actually going to shoot that film next September/October with Tim Burton and Johnny,” King said in a group interview Friday in Los Angeles, where he was promoting The Young Victoria.

At present Tim Burton who will direct the movie is wrapping up production on Alice In Wonderland , which opens March, 5 2010. Meanwhile producer Graham King is prepping the film for production.

“We’ve been working on the script a lot, even though he’s working on Alice,” King continued. “We’ve been given a script. John August wrote the first screenplay. We’re making some changes, but the film’s going to be in production, as I say, September or October of next year.”

King describes this movie adaptation as a post Twilight world of emo vampires, but wouldn’t spoil the new take. “This is going to be Tim Burton and Johnny doing a vampire movie, right?” King teased. Enough said.

Johnny Depp is to play the iconic role of bloody vampire Barnabas Collins a role that was originated by acclaimed character actor Jonathan Frid.
