David Maisel, the current head of Marvel Studios, has announced that he’s to step down from the position upon the completion of the Marvel and Disney merger.
According to Variety, Maisel will continue to assist as an executive producer on Iron Man 2, and will continue to work on development of both Thor and Captain America before he moves on to pursue “other opportunities”.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios will shoulder much of the burden when Maisel leaves.
The exec joined Marvel in 2004 as president of its newly-formed film division. He was instrumental in raising the $525 million (£322 million) required to develop blockbuster movies such as Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.
Prior to joining Marvel Maisel was head of development at Disney. He is actually credited as being among the first to suggest a merger between Marvel and Disney.
It’s been suggested that there will be more structural changes at Marvel before the merger is finalised in December.
