Alice and her friends scour the forest for ratingsThe Alice two-part miniseries broadcast recently on the Syfy Channel attracted 2.45 million viewers in the States during the first part, while the second segment fell to a total of 2.12 million, according to Trekmovie.com.

While this is the best performance by a mini-series since Tin Man in 2007, Alice numbers were significantly lower than Tin Man’s, which drew an average of 5.3 million watchers.  Part 1 of Tin Man still holds the record for the most-watched telecast in Syfy’s history, 6.3 million.

Other December mini-series events fared better than Alice.  For instance, the first installment of Taken took in 6.1 million viewers, followed by 4.4 million for part 2 and 5 million for the third night.  Coming close were Dune (4.6 million) and the Battlestar Galactica debut  (3.5 million).

Battlestar GalacticaIn other Syfy news, Battlestar Galactica was recently named the Top Timeshifted Program of 2009 by Nielsen Ratings, according to SciFi Wire.

Just what is a “timeshifted” program, you ask?The timeshifted list measures viewers who watch a show after it has aired (recorded on DVRs and the like) and is based on the percentage of additional viewers beyond the network ratings. In fact, the list of ‘Top 10 Timeshifted TV Programs’ is riddled with sci-fi, fantasy and/or cable shows, including shows canceled or no longer on the air, like Galactica,” the website explains.

Galactica found a whopping 59.4% increase in viewership levels. Other genre programs that did well in this list include True Blood (46.9%), Stargate Universe (46.9%), Sanctuary (45.9%), Heroes (45.9%), Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (45.5%) and Dollhouse (44.9%).

I think the ratings on Alice are a bummer. If it was a real series and not a mini-series, I would watch it above all the others listed in this article. In my opinion, the Alice mini-series was the best that the Sci-fi channel has ever come up with. Their original movies have good plots (sometimes), but suck with graphics and acting. Alice had good acting and good graphics, as well as a good plot. I hope that the Sci-fi channel airs this show more so that more people can see what they’re missing.

I preferred Tinman tbh. That said I didn’t think Alice was a bad show. I feel it could have done with a bit more pace in first part though. Second half was definitely much stronger.

Cool, and its nice that we can all enjoy different things and agree to differ.

I have to confess the lady playing Alice did have the look of how I’d imagine a young adult version of the character would be like.

i think that Alice was very very very very good. and as to all the hits it is getting on the web and all the fan videos dedicated to “halice” on youtube i think its fair to say it did better than tinman in that aspect. i know a lot of ppl tivo’d it and dvr-ed it and are continually watching it over and over again.
so i hope they do a sequel, and i know a ton of other ppl do too.
