Guillermo del Toro Wants Serkis For Hobbit

gollumGuillermo del Toro who is all set to direct the two Hobbit prequel movies to Peter Jackson’s hugely successful Lord Of The Rings movies is looking to bring another of the original cast members back for his prequel movies, which are based on the J.R.R. Tolkien prequel book.

Fans already know that Ian McKellen is due to reprise his role of Wizard Gandalf, and its common knowledge that The Hobbit goes some way to revealing some of the back story for Gollum, and that is partly the reason why director Guillermo del Torro is hoping to cast Andy Serkis in the role, which he played in the three Peter Jackson movies.

In a message posted on The One Ring, del Toro said that he “cannot imagine Gollum being played by anyone but Andy”.

Del Toro also hinted that two other stars from the previous Rings films are likely to appear in The Hobbit.

Having Cate Blanchett reprise her role as “Galadriel” makes no sense as Galadriel does not appear in the Hobbit. She is a minor character in THE SILMARILLION…(Melian actually has the “Galadriel part” in that earlier history. But having Andy Serkis back as Gollum makes perfect sense.

Incidentally—has no one else ever wondered why Bilbo aged so drastically once he gave up the ring? Gollum (who was much older than Bilbo) doesn’t.
