Red Sonja is likely to be a topic of conversation throughout a fair bit of 2010. As many fans will know director Robert Rodriguez has been developing a new movie based on the comic book and pulp character, which was devised by Conan The Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard and adapted for comics by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith. The movie stars Rose McGowan in the title role.
So with this in mind. It’s understandable that Dynamite comics who currently have use of the comic book license, would set out to bring the character back to the fore. Which is exactly what they setting up to do with the new mini series Red Sonja: Wrath Of The Gods.
This latest Red Sonja story is written by Luke Lieberman and drawn by Walter Geovanni, the tale combines Robert E. Howard’s Conan universe with Norse mythology, as the ‘She-Devil with a Sword’ teams up with Thor and Odin to do battle with Loki.
“Wrath Of The Gods explores the mysteries of Sonja’s past, while presenting her with the malicious threat of Loki in the present,” read Dynamite’s solicitation for the book. “Can Thor, the God of Thunder, and Odin, the All-Father, aid the warrior woman and prevent their fellow god from destroying the very world?”
Dynamite are offering retailers a limited-edition variant cover signed by writer Lieberman for every ten issues they order.
Red Sonja first appeared in comics for issue 23 of Marvels Conan The Barbarian back in 1973.
Red Sonja: Wrath Of The Gods #1 arrives in stores in February 2010.
