Digital Comics specialist Liquid Comics were born in the wake of Virgin Comics and pride themselves on creating modern myths for todays audience.
For awhile now the company has been running Directors Cut titles, which include comics endorsed by popular movie directors such as John Woo and Guy Ritchie.
Now it looks like the company is looking to take its connection with the movies a stage further, and has partnered with movie studio L+E Productions. According to Variety the two companies hope to produce Graphic Novels or Trade Paperbacks that can be adapted for either television or movies.
Liquid co-founders Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman will adapt the ideas as graphic novels.
The new label, which comprises of both companies who are calling themselves Epic Cycle will launch with three titles: science fiction story H2O, Stuart Moore’s kung-fu adventure A Thousand Arts and Ron Marz’s Purgatory, which follows a scientist who is hired by the Catholic Church to prove the existence of an afterlife.
“I had been looking for the right partner to develop properties through the graphic novel space, and Liquid reaches an audience without huge costs,” said L+E CEO Eric Eisner. “The primary focus is to create properties with franchise potential, and studio-driven material.”
Sharad Devarajan added: “We’ve always looked at Liquid as a great way to incubate properties for films, games, animation and TV.”
L+E Production is best known for having produced Steve Coogan’s comedy Hamlet 2. Liquid Comics came into being as a result of the restructuring and management buyout at Virgin Comics. It‘s previously published titles by John Woo, Guy Richie and Nicolas Cage.
