Accomplished Hollywood star Rene Russo has recently signed up for a role in Thor according to a report found at Variety.
The actress who has done drama, light comedy and her fair share of action movies made a fairly big splash in the 1990’s when she took on the role of no nonsense internal affairs officer Lorna Cole in Lethal Weapon 3 and 4. So her action credentials are not in doubt.
Russo will play the role of Frigga, Odin’s wife, mother of Thor and adoptive mother of Loki.
This will not be Russo’s first comic book gig. Her first roles was Eden Kendell in the short lived ABC series ‘Sable’, which centred on Jon Sable, a superhero/vigilante. The series only ever aired two episodes back in 1987 before the plug was pulled.
Thor, which is to be directed by Kenneth Branagh is aiming for release in May 2011.
The movie also stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, as well as Kat Dennings and Idris Elba.
